Very interesting project overall with promising potential for architecture, site-specific art, urban activism and the related fields. ‘Live’, interactive, engaging, original, inspiring! Subject to multiple interpretations. Critically discusses issues related to non-programmed space, and its appropriation. Extremely well conducted and produced. Technical integrity and professionalism. Very ‘sharp’, highlighting the element of play, and how it alters a space. Makes an important point on how the definition of uses (planning basically) can transform and enliven an otherwise ‘spatially poor’ environment.

The playfulness of your work is its most fascinating part, its ability to invite us in, to play, through curious objects and devices, which are simple yet very efficient. Enhance the elements of surrealism and utopia in your work; make it a dreamlike urban playground!

We did a just-one-day workshop at IED about how to make supereffective short videos with a very simple and basic technic: the stop motion. The brief was to unfold a secrect life of an everyday object throght a 60″ video. Nella giornata di venerdi 29, un gruppo di studenti della facoltà di architettura (Urban Fields) e un gruppo di docenti e studenti dell’Istituto d’Arte di Civita Castellana guidati da Katia Millozzi, grazie all’ospitalità della coalizione di centro sinistra
guidata da Gianluca Angelelli candidato a Sindaco, realizzeranno una serie di oggetti e spazi gonfiabili con la partecipazione della cittadinanza e sopratutto coinvolgeranno bambini e genitori a riflettere sul ruolo dell’architettura, dell’urbanistica, dell’economia, della sostenibilità e dell’arte nella vita e nel governo di una città.
Il titolo dell’evento è “Da ciascuno secondo capacità, a ciascuno secondo necessità” e si riferisce all’idea di una progettazione partecipata del futuro della nostra collettività. Come nel medioevo la cattedrale veniva realizzata dalle diverse maestranze che fornivano ciascuna il proprio specifico sapere e competenza, anche nel governo di una città c’è bisogno che ognuno contribuisca secondo le proprie capacità.

Per secoli abbiamo temuto un’invasione da parte di alieni super tecnologici pronti a colonizzarci o distruggere ogni segno della nostra civiltà. Oggi scopriamo che le nostre preoccupazioni e i nostri timori erano infondati, mentre una nuova emergenza – questa volta reale e drammatica – si profila all’orizzonte con un’urgenza che non ha confronti nella storia dell’umanità. Presto dovremo, infatti, assistere all’emigrazione forzata di intere popolazioni aliene, sospinte da catastrofi di proporzioni galattiche, da guerre etniche e genocidi estesi a moltissimi pianeti, con la conseguenza di una disperata richiesta di aiuto da parte di popolazioni marziane la cui sopravvivenza è messa drammaticamente in crisi. Superstiti della Battaglia delle Porte di Tannhäuser ed esuli dalle stazioni orbitanti presso i bastioni di Orione, sono alla deriva nelle profondità stellari e si dirigono verso la terra. È evidente che in questa situazione manca tutto… Ricoveri, medici, viveri e ogni altro genere di conforto. Ma che tipo di cibo occorre, quale cultura si confronterà con la nostra? Oppure saranno molte e diversissime le forme di vita che si affacceranno sulla nostra terra? Prima ancora di intervenire c’è bisogno di capire, comprendere e inviare segnali ancora sconosciuti, trovare dei linguaggi comuni attraverso i quali stabilire relazioni, parlare, ascoltare… Ecco che, prima di tutto, appare necessario inventare gesti e segnali anche minimi che attraverso innumerevoli tentativi riescano in qualche modo a comunicare una volontà di accoglienza. Piccole azioni comuni dunque, con poche probabilità di essere ricevute, fatte di segni elementari, ma partecipate, testimonianze non equivoche di una volontà positiva, collettiva, di accoglienza.

For Exhibition Design Lab in 2008, we’ve been reached by Eyal Fried who gave an instant workshop to the students. It was about minimal but effective and (possibly) radical intervention in the urban space.

Camera, clock, your body, your brain.

Instruction on the field:

1. immediately following the brief in class, you will have exactly one hour to find a location for your intervention.

2. On location, identify the exact space, area you want to focus on and perform your intervention in.

3. at 12:53 EXACTLY (we will coordinate our watches as part of the brief), you will document this space fro EXACTLY 30 seconds, using the stop-motion technique, one image (one “click” if you like) every 2 seconds. this is important also because in the post-production part of our project, you will define 2-seconds frames in Premier (or any other software for video editing).

4. at 12:59, EXACTLY 6 minutes after your documentation of the space in pre-intervention phase, you will document your intervention, again for EXACTLY 30 seconds. this will complete your activity on the field. you will be asked to prove the authenticity of time of intervention.

Outputs.

One 30 second stop motion video documenting the location + one 30 second stop motion video documenting the intervention to be posted on you tube + one post + meaningfull title and subtitle to be done by next Wednesday.
